Alexandra Torterotot is a French filmmaker based in New York City. She began her career in film production as an intern on Spike Lee films while she studied at School of Visual Arts. After obtaining her B.F.A in Film, she decided to pursue a career in script supervising. She learned the craft from her mentor, Sylvette Baudrot, perhaps the most famous and respected script supervisor in France, on the set of Julian Schnabel’s The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
Since then, Alexandra has worked as a Script Supervisor on a variety of films and series such as Ava Duvernay’s mini series, When They See Us, Spike Lee’s Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It, BlackKklansman and Highest 2 Lowest, Steven Soderbergh’s High Flying Bird, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, Jon Chu’s In the Heights, Darren Arronofsky’s The Whale and Caught Stealing, Bradley Cooper’s Maestro and Is This Thing On.
Alexandra has directed several award winning short films: The Killer (Entry level winner of the feature film competition on Filmmaka.com), and The Stairway (which won Best Director and Best Short Film shot on a Micro Budget at the American International Film Festival). In 2011, she directed Au Fil du Banc (English title: Once Upon a Bench) produced by Rossprod. The film won best short film at the Warsaw Jewish Film Festival and was selected in dozens of festivals around the world. It also aired on French national television France 3 and Switzerland RTS 2. In 2016, she directed several episodes of Real Women Real Stories, an online docu-series showcasing testimonies of women who have faced trauma through human trafficking and abuse.
A few years later, Alexandra’s next short film, The Mermaid’s Journey, won Best Director at the 2020 MOM Film Festival and was selected at the 2020 Bend Film Festival and 2021 Woodstock Film Festivals “Short Films Big Stories” screening series. Her latest short film, When the Sun refuses to Shine was selected at the 2024 New York International Film Festival and Orlando Film Festival.
Alexandra is currently looking for funding for two feature film projects: When the Sun Refuses to Shine and The Wait.
